To round out options for truck weight-wise mixer and dump customers, Mack has extended its construction offerings with a Medium Duty Granite in axle-forward or axle-back configurations. Announced at ConExpo-Con/Agg, the new model will be equipped with a Cummins ISL9 engine, plus Eaton manual, or Allison 3000/4000 automatic transmissions. The Allison 3000 also has been added as an option for the standard Granite series, as has a single-piece windshield.

In addition to the new truck and components, Mack officials also report continuing positive feedback from vocational customers running the company’s ClearTech EPA 2010-compliant diesel engines and SCR exhaust treatment. Operators of Mack MP7-powered Granites are reporting fuel economy gains of 5–6 percent above EPA 2007-grade engines, which in turn had exhibited as much as 20 percent better fuel economy than EPA 2004 power. Customers also indicate much lower incidence of regeneration-rooted, duty cycle disruption in MP7 compared to EPA 2007 engines.
