Council Eyes Construction Health Hazards Program

A Health Hazards Awareness Program targeting accident or incident prevention at residential, commercial, industrial, heavy-highway and demolition sites

A Health Hazards Awareness Program targeting accident or incident prevention at residential, commercial, industrial, heavy-highway and demolition sites is set for summer release by the Construction Safety Council. Federal funding through a Susan Harwood Training Grant, awarded in October 2009, financed the Council’s development of a new Îtrain-the-trainerÌ comprehensive curriculum covering construction project health hazards.

Delivered in plain, nontechnical, easy-to-understand English and Spanish versions, the Council emphasizes, its instruction will address industrial hygiene in four steps: (1) anticipation and (2) recognition of problems, (3) evaluation of environmental factors, and (4) application of control measures. The program will consist of modules targeting chemical, physical, and biological health hazards found on construction sites; and, these modules can be combined to tailor a program to particular contractor needs. Instructional materials conform to OSHA standards and requirements.

The Construction Safety Council will offer a free training session for six instructors prior to the national rollout. Interested experienced trainers are invited to apply for the Îtrainer-the-trainerÌ course. Û 800/554-7744, ext 202
