Effective this month, Jeffrey D. Smith has been promoted from executive vice president to president and chief executive officer of High Industries Inc., Lancaster, Pa., responsible for High Concrete Group LLC, High Steel Structures Inc., and High Steel Service Center LLC. He will also serve as co-chair of the High companies executive committee. Smith, who holds an MBA from Southern Methodist University, joined High Industries from CertainTeed Corp., where he was vice president of Operations, Roofing Products. He succeeds W. Thomas Kennedy III, who will become executive assistant to Chairman S. Dale High, providing the executive committee operational support and counsel.

Mack Trucks has named three vice presidents for key sales regions: Patrick Meehan, Northeast, formerly vice president of Mack’s Western Region; John Thomas, Western Region, previously responsible for Mack’s North American dealer network as senior vice president of distribution development; and, David Barletta, Central Region, most recently Central Region district sales manager.

Command Alkon Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ken Robinson (right) accepted the Alabama Governor’s Trade Excellence Award on behalf of his company, a supplier of integrated solutions for construction and bulk-materials industries worldwide. The award was presented by Governor Bob Riley as part of an initiative to honor globally competitive Alabama companies, promote exporters as role models within the state business community, and increase awareness of exports’ economic impact.

Our 2010 trade agenda builds on Alabama’s outstanding success in exporting, noted Governor Riley. New international business and education ties forged this year will continue to benefit our citizens for years to come.
