Seeking to learn of U.S. counterpartsÌ efforts in training and educating plant personnel, plus mix design optimization, a group of about 20 Chinese concrete professionals recently toured the NRMCA Research Laboratory in College Park, Md., and Aggregate Industries Bladensburg, Md., ready mixed operation. The latter was chosen due to its production capacity and as an example of NRMCA’s Green-Star certification program for plants adopting continuous improvement-modeled, environmental management systems. The delegation was extremely surprised at the high quality of the concrete constituents as well the environmental controls in place, says Aggregate IndustriesÌ U.S. Environmental and Land Services Manager Joel Nickel.
