The education-centered 2010 International Concrete Exposition (Icon Expo), March 19-20 at San Antonio’s Henry. B. Gonzalez Convention Center, will link sponsoring groups’ producer members, business partners, and industry leaders. Portland Cement Association Chief Economist Ed Sullivan will provide an updated industry forecast in a closing keynote for the event, which is produced by National Concrete Masonry Association with partners PCA, Cast Stone Institute, Expanded Shale, Clay & Slate Institute, and Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute. Anchored by product machinery and batch plant manufacturers, the two-day trade exhibit will coincide with the 2010 NCMA annual convention and ICPI meeting, as well as the CSI Winter Workshop.
Icon Expo’s Production, Operations & Safety education track offers instruction in concrete coloring, efflorescence control, and optimization of multi-cavity molding processes to enhance sustainability, while improving product quality and bottom line, show sponsors note. Additionally, this year’s education program will include Û for the first time Û vendor-specific, production-related seminars conducted by industry suppliers, who will provide detailed presentations targeting personnel who work daily with the matter at hand. The sessions are designed to mirror the entire scope of plant operations, from materials receiving through production and packaging. Overall, a three-day track comprising five sessions will address multiple topics:
- March 18, Thursday, 2:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. – Using A Process Control Chart to Optimize Multi-Cavity Molding Processes; Efflorescence Control; Understanding the NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace and How it Relates to OSHA PPE Rules; and, How to Produce Consistent Color.
- March 19, Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. – How to Make More Sustainable Concrete Products; Using Recycled Content; Alternative Aggregates; Alternative Cementitious Materials; and, Reducing Energy Costs and Carbon Footprint by Optimizing the Curing Process.
- March 19, Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon – Open Forum on Production, Operations, and Safety Issues. Industry experts, who meet NCMA Concrete Products University standards, will field questions posed by production personnel regarding production, operations, and safety challenges.
- March 19, Friday, 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. – The Case for Facemix Products (Rekers NA Inc.); Efflorescence Control – A Total Solution Approach (ACM Chemistries); plus, additional seminars to be announced, including one by Columbia Machine, Inc.
- March 20, Saturday, 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. – Electrical Troubleshooting (Besser Co.); Optimizing Sustainability of Concrete Masonry (ESCSI); How to Produce Consistent Color (Lanxess, Rockwood Pigments, and Solomon Colors); Handling, Cubing, Splitting, Inline Processing, and Safety (Pathfinder Systems); plus, additional seminars to be announced, including one by Hess Machinery.
