Portland Cement Association and CTLGroup veteran Anthony Fiorato has been appointed SCA executive director, effective Feb. 1. “His depth of knowledge about sustainable construction and the role slag cement can play in advancing green building solutions is a tremendous asset we believe will enhance SCA performance and visibility, affirms Angus Jappy, SCA president and Lehigh Hanson vice president, Cementitious Materials.

Lehigh Hanson and other SCA members represent more than 90 percent of ground granulated blast furnace slag cement shipped in the U.S. Fiorato, who will operate the group from a Glenview, Ill., office, was president and CEO of CTLGroup, an engineering, testing and research firm, from 1999 until his retirement in 2007, and PCA vice president of Research and Technical Services from 1989Ò1999. He joined the Skokie, Ill.-based group in 1973 as a structural engineer, proceeding to other professional and management positions at PCA and the CTLGroup subsidiary.

An American Concrete Institute fellow and past president (2006), Fiorato serves on ACI’s Committee 318 Structural Concrete Building Code, Standards Board, and Board Advisory Committee on ISO TC 71 on Concrete, Reinforced Concrete, and Prestressed Concrete. An ASTM International Fellow and past chairman (2006), he also serves on Committees C01 on Cement, C09 on Concrete and Concrete Aggregates, and E36 on Laboratory and Inspection Agency Accreditation. He chairs Committee C09 and the Executive Committee of the Cement and Concrete Reference Laboratory.
