Suited for new plant mixers or retrofits on existing countercurrent or pan models, the Visco Probe uses the latest material flow technology to augment self consolidating mix quality control. SCC mix consistency is calculated and adjusted based on probe-measured relative values for two basic mixing parameters: internal forces of mixing that are key to workability and flowability. In lieu of using mixer motor power measurements, Visco Probe combines a cast steel ball, accompanying the mixer paddles’ path, and force sensors with strain gauge to relay mix characteristics readings by wireless signals to a receiver/automatic process controller. The controller can be interfaced with most existing batching and mixing controls.

A user-friendly interface screen allows easy entry of data with a clear, dynamic, real-time color graphic that illustrates progress toward the target SCC mix consistency, then flashes an unmistakable bulls-eye hit as it discharges the load. Visco Probe technology automatically monitors the effect on concrete consistency of all incoming materials. Its measurements are not affected by the wear of any parts inside the mixer or oil temperature in the gearbox. The device can register a change in concrete consistency resulting from the addition of as little as 26 oz. of water in a yard of homogenous mix. Marking a North American industry debut, Skako Inc. will demonstrate the Visco Probe at the 2010 Precast Show, Feb. 18-20, in Phoenix, Booth 1148.
