Universal Safety Response’s GRAB (Ground Retractable Automobile Barrier) system took the inaugural Homeland Security Award for Best Crash Barriers (Gates, Fences, Bollards, Guard Booths, Blast Resistant Products). Anchoring USR’s line of crash-rated or decorative site protection products–including precast concrete bollards and barriers–GRAB is reportedly the only energy-absorbing, FHWA-certified, ASTM M50 and DOS K12 non-hydraulic barrier on the market. It has been installed at 350-plus commercial and business sites in the U.S. and Canada.

USR is a subsidiary of Springfield, Mass.-based Smith & Wesson Holding Corp., which added the perimeter security and vehicle barrier operation to its core firearms business in a mid-2009 acquisition. New York-based Government Security News sponsors the Homeland Security Awards.
