The seventh generation of Jamie Hardie’s fiber-cement flagship product, HardiePlank lap-style siding, has versions with edge details and surface treatment suited to Sunbelt and Northern climates. The manufacturer, whose siding technology and marketing savvy during the past two decades placed cement-based product in the residential cladding mainstream, is promoting the HZ5 and HZ10 lines under the HardieZone system banner. Both feature the factory-baked ColorPlus paint and are engineered to withstand the stress of such variables as temperature fluctuation, ultraviolet exposure, humidity, rainfall, snow, hail, hurricane and topographical factors.

Based on each climate’s frequency and severity ratio across North America, common variables were grouped to form the HZ5 and HZ10 zones. Now fabricated with beveled top and drip edges for improved water management, the HZ5 HardiePlank is formulated to protect against freezing temperatures, snow, ice and moisture, maintaining dimensional stability under severe weather exposure. Designed for the heat and unstable climates of North America’s western and southern regions–particularly the coastal regions–the HZ10 product’s composition is resistant to moisture damage, cracking, splitting, rotting, swelling, high winds, termites and flame.

“We are a market leader in residential siding because we continue to modify, enhance and evolve our fiber cement technology,” says James Hardie Product Manager John Dybsky. “The HardieZone line benefits from our most aggressive and focused research and development to date, resulting in specialized siding products designed specifically for the variety of climate challenges. Along with the new system, he adds, the company is introducing an industry-best, 30-year limited, non-prorated warranty that reflects our confidence in the products.”
