Recent offerings for Shuttlelift’s SL and ISL gantry cranes include wheel jacking and automatic variable throttle (AVT) systems. The wheel jacking option is quick but safe, the manufacturer notes, saving valuable time compared to traditional tire-changing practices; and, the AVT can significantly reduce fuel costs to boost profitability, product engineers affirm.

WHEEL-JACKING SYSTEM

The new wheel jacking application is available on all units with a cantivered wheel frame. A self-contained motor, pump and hydraulic reservoir is hooked up to the crane’s battery, a stand-alone 12v battery, or the battery of a service vehicle. The system will drive the pump, actuating a hydraulic cylinder bolted to the wheel frame, raising the wheel clear of the ground. Thus, tires can be changed in confined spaces where access by crane or large forklift is difficult.

AUTOMATIC VARIABLE THROTTLE

The AVT’s built-in programming automatically adjusts engine speed to produce sufficient power to carry out the task at hand. Accordingly, for whatever function the operator selects Û whether a one-hoist or hoist-and-traverse maneuver Û the AVT will produce only sufficient rpm to accomplish that activity, returning to idle once the task has been completed. With the AVT option, engine rpm management does not require any operator input.

IMPROVED ISL CAB COMFORT

An Îemergency shutdownÌ control has been incorporated into the arm rest; the instrument panel has been improved; and, the Îpower viewÌ to monitor system functions has been enhanced. Additionally, the cab now is wider and longer, with slide-opening windows on both inboard and outboard sides.
