Pci, Cpci, Npca Eye Life-Cycle Assessment For Precast

The Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute, Canadian Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute, and National Precast Concrete Association have scheduled

The Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute, Canadian Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute, and National Precast Concrete Association have scheduled a September 2009 completion for phase one of a life-cycle assessment (LCA) of precast concrete Û from cradle to project completion through occupancy or service life. The initial phase will factor the impact of raw material extraction and precast product fabrication, delivery and erection. Phase two, immediately following, will model the actual use of a building or structure.

Notes PCI Director of Sustainability Emily Lorenz, The objective of this research is to foster a better understanding of the use of precast/prestressed concrete components and, if needed, make modifications to reduce our environmental impact. An LCA review group will oversee studies conducted by a joint venture of Morrison Hershfield, The Athena Institute, and George Venta. Parties interested in sponsoring the research can contact PCI’s Brian Miller, 312/360-3216; [email protected].
