Now in its 13th year, the Driver of the Year program salutes Winfred David Brooks of Titan Virginia Ready Mix LLC as 2008 Driver of the Year. Also recognized are finalists Ricardo Jimenez of Redi-Mix Concrete at Euless, Texas; and, R.L. Jordan of Southern Concrete Materials, Asheville, N.C. The honorees were selected by a panel of judges Û assembled by the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association’s Operations, Environmental, and Safety Committee Û on the basis of multiple criteria, including competence and service skills; number of years without an on- or off-site accident; and, customer and colleague testimonials. During a presentation ceremony at this month’s 2009 NRMCA Annual Convention in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., a $5,000 check from the Truck Mixer Manufacturers Bureau was awarded to the Driver of the Year, and each finalist received a $500 TMMB prize. Program cosponsors Concrete Products and NRMCA commend these outstanding professionals for their stellar performance behind the wheel and on the ground.

During 45 consecutive years of accident-free driving from the New Post plant Û now serving Titan Virginia’s Dulles-based Northern Virginia ready mixed concrete business unit from the outskirts of Fredericksburg, some 60 miles south of Washington, D.C. Û David Brooks has evolved with the technology he operates. In 1963, starting work for Massaponax Sand & Gravel Co., he began delivering concrete in a three-cubic yard, chain-driven truck equipped with a pony engine. As mixers advanced and the company changed hands three times over four-and-a-half decades, Brooks remained a constant example of a model mixer driver, usually at the top of the plant’s monthly yards-per-driver hour productivity report. Accordingly, he was honored for his career achievements, safety record, professionalism, driving competency, and customer service skills.
