The Cement Council of Texas has named Richard Rogers, P.E., director of Concrete Pavements. He will provide engineering guidance to the Texas Department of Transportation on its largest concrete pavement projects, as well as advise other state and local agencies, their consultants, and project partners on large-scale public and private jobs. Primarily, his expertise will be applied to the construction of toll roads, airfield pavements, and port facilities. Rogers brings to his new role 30-plus years’ experience as a professional engineer and advisor to state and national authorities responsible for major concrete projects.

National Concrete Masonry Association Research and Development Laboratory Manager Nick Lang has been appointed as the chairman of the ASTM subcommittee that oversees the development of standards for concrete masonry units and related units. It manages specification standards such as C 90 for load-bearing concrete masonry units, C 1634 for concrete facing brick and C 1372 for segmental retaining wall units, as well as test method standards such as C 140 which provides for compression, absorption and dimensional evaluation of these products. He succeeds Bob Thomas, who chaired the subcommittee for 10 years, but is now concentrating on his recent appointment as NCMA staff president.

Among current C15.03 subcommittee issues are: reviewing frequency for sampling units for testing; determining appropriate material requirements given the increasing trend for consideration of recycled materials in unit production; furthering development of testing and reporting criteria for specific concrete product types; and refining the finish and appearance sections of unit specifications.
