COMPACT WHEEL LOADER
Offering a combination of power, versatility and operator amenities, the manufacturer notes, the Caterpillar 904H compact wheel loader features a new engine and axles, articulated steering, two-speed hydrostatic drive, Z-bar loader linkage, universal coupler (compatible with skid-steer-loader work tools), new operator’s station, and fresh styling Û including a new hood, counterweight, and nonmetallic fenders. At 52 net horsepower and 9,900-lb. operating weight, the 904H replaces the 904B, reducing exhaust emissions by using the turbocharged MHI S4Q2 diesel engine, which meets Interim Tier 4 regulations.
The MHI S4Q2 powers a closed loop, single path hydrostatic transmission that works in combination with a frame-mounted gear box and mechanical axles. The newly designed axles provide more ground clearance and can be equipped with optional locking differentials to help the 904H power through adverse ground conditions.
The new loader’s Z-bar loader linkage provides ample lift height and reach, while generating high bucket breakout forces (8,003 lb.), allowing the 904H to take on difficult loading and lifting chores, company engineers affirm. The 904H has a maximum hydraulic lift capacity of 7,464 lb. Additionally, wide spacing of the lift arms and the loader linkage geometry yield high visibility.
Enhancing machine control and reducing operator fatigue, the new model’s drive system provides smooth acceleration and deceleration, plus precise inching operation. Optional creeper control complements the auxiliary hydraulic system by allowing the 904H to travel at low ground speeds in order to maintain precise control of powered work tools, while the engine runs at high speed to develop maximum hydraulic horsepower for efficient tool operation. EXPANDED JLG TELEHANDLER LINE ABSORBS GRADALL
JLG Industries reports that by year end, Gradall-branded telehandlers will become part of an expanded JLG equipment family. Company representatives note that while retaining qualities of the Gradall product, including the renowned blue color, all models will carry the JLG name. The rebranding initiative marks the completion of a plan that began in 2006, when JLG sold the Gradall excavator line.
JLG will continue to provide Ground Support Û aftermarket, parts, training and technical support services Û for existing Gradall telehandlers.
