In Earth Day 2008 observance, Kirchner will spotlight its eco-friendly Romanstone permeable interlocking concrete pavement system during an April 24 symposium for municipal and utility officials, plus design, engineering, construction and real estate development professionals. Staff will provide three Romanstone overviews and drainage demonstrations throughout the afternoon gathering at the Kirchner headquarters and showroom outside St. Louis.

The producer has developed the Permeable Pavement Symposium as area municipalities, businesses and residents place a higher priority on storm water management. All sewer system users face proposed rate calculation changes tied to impermeable surfaces, including parking lots, roads and driveways.

As sewer districts implement new regulations and associated fees to comply with federal water reclamation and quality mandates, storm water management is one of the biggest issues facing public and private property owners or developers across the U.S., Kirchner officials note. Permeable interlocking concrete pavements, they add, are becoming increasingly popular with communities confronting runoff regulations and increased impervious cover restrictions, while adopting green building practices.
