Pti Updates Post-Tensioning Construction Guides

The Post-Tensioning Institute has updated two publications for post-tensioning practitioners: PTI Specification for Seven-Wire Prestressing Steel Strand

The Post-Tensioning Institute has updated two publications for post-tensioning practitioners:

PTI Specification for Seven-Wire Prestressing Steel Strand for Barrier Cable Applications, Second Edition, offers detailed recommendations for the installation and tensioning of seven-wire prestressing steel strand for barrier cable systems. While other types of steel strand are not covered in the specification, information is provided for strands with varied coatings and anchorage systems. The guide specification is primarily developed for parking structure applications (vehicle restraint); however, it can be applied to any project using similar techniques. Formatted like a reference specification, the document is intended for use either as a reference or incorporation in specifications where barrier cable systems are employed. Thus, licensed design professionals can cite the PTI guide specification with any supplementary project requirements, making adjustments when necessary to conform to building codes and other project needs.

Recommendations for Stay Cable Design, Testing and Installation, Fifth Edition, is suited as a global reference for construction of cable stay bridges. Significant modifications include fatigue testing provisions, now containing misalignment at the anchorage within basic testing, and design provisions where bending is an explicit part of stay design. Additions also include new capacity-reduction factors, provisions and recommendations addressing high seismic demand situations, minimum design requirements for stay anchor pipes, and limited conditions of extradosed bridges. Content has been reorganized to reflect modern practices, including updates on material supply requirements, wind provisions, cable vibrations and loss conditions, plus cable installation and maintenance. Following the Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) format of the previous edition, the publication is designed for use with the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Code.

Both publication updates can be ordered online at www.post-tensioning.org. The 2nd Edition Specification is available to the public for $21.50 ($15.50 for PTI members), and the 5th Edition Recommendations sells for $65.00 ($45.50 for PTI members).
