A late-2007 ceremony marked the start of construction for Rastra Corp.’s Columbus, Ohio, plant. After its projected opening in second- or third-quarter 2008, the facility will run as a one-shift operation during the first phase, employing up to 40 workers. A two-shift operation introduced later will create additional jobs, company officials note.

California-based Rastra offers a stay-in-place insulated concrete form (ICF) system whose lightweight composition comprises more than 80 percent content of recycled foam plastic and cement. Moreover, product developers note, the Rastra building system has a high insulation value and is resistant to fire, frost and other climatic effects. It readily takes stucco or other types of wall covering, they add, and installation does not require special skills or tools.
