Precasters shipped product valued at more than $26 billion in 2006, roughly the same amount as in the prior year, according to the 2007 National Precast Concrete Association Precast Benchmarking Report, which tracks industry sales figures, operational data, compensation, employee benefits and trends. While the top-selling components between 2006 and 2007 were underground infrastructure products like manholes, concrete pipe, catch basins, septic tanks and utility vaults, the survey uncovered strong growth in building foundation wall panels and prestressed building components.

The 130-page benchmarking report also includes detailed financial and sales mix information and a position-by-position breakdown of employee compensation. The annual study, conducted by a professional research firm, drew responses from 227 precast plants throughout North America. The report can be purchased for a member discount price of $250, or nonmember price of $500. Orders can placed by visiting the NPCA Shop (www.precast-online.org/source/orders/index.cfm?section=orders) or calling Denise Bradburn, 317/582-2325.
