The ASTM Committee C15 Concrete Masonry Units and Related Units has recognized Jeff Speck, director of engineering for Big River Industries Inc., with the society’s Award of Merit. Alpharetta, Ga.-based Big River is an Oldcastle Architectural company that produces rotary kiln expanded clay lightweight aggregate. The National Concrete Masonry Association notes how Speck has been active in supporting concrete masonry unit and test method standards development, as well as developments of aggregates used in concrete and masonry applications. The award, for which recipients attain ASTM Fellow status, reads, Jeff Speck was chosen for his longstanding contribution to the development and improvement of numerous new and existing standard test methods and specifications in several areas of the masonry and related concrete industries, where he often serves in a leadership role.
