Construction manager Skanska Building USA Inc. has awarded High Concrete Group the structural precast concrete contract for the $998 million Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. Located on the site of the existing Giants Stadium, the 82,000-seat venue will be home to the National Football League’s New York Giants and New York Jets teams following its anticipated opening for the 2010 season.

High Concrete landed the contract after months of preconstruction consulting with engineers Ewing Cole and Thorton Thomasetti. Starting in January 2008, the company will begin shipping precast grandstand units, wall panels, and stair units for the stadium bowl, handling fabrication at a recently acquired Buena, N.J., plant located about two hours from the site. The Meadowlands contract follows High Concrete’s recent delivery of precast for the 18,000-seat Prudential Center in Newark, home to the New Jersey Devils professional hockey team.

Meadowlands Stadium is the second NFL team venue underway that approaches the $1 billion mark and calls for primarily precast/prestressed construction. Earlier this year, work began on the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Heldenfels Enterprises, San Marcos, Texas, holds the precast/prestressed contract for that project, scheduled to open for the 2009 season.
