The American Society of Civil Engineers and the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association will offer a new seminar, Designing High Performance Structures, in Boston, June 28-29, and St. Louis, Sept. 27-28. Attendees will receive 1.4 Continuing Education Units (CEU) or 14 Professional Development Hours (PDH). For design engineers, contractors, and concrete producers, the course will examine the design and building of high-performance concrete structures exposed to harsh environments, including bridges, roadways, plazas, parking facilities, or marine installations. Performance-based specifications will guide course recommendations for creating and specifying mix designs resistant to various modes of failure, such as corrosion, alkali-silica reactivity, sulfate attack, and freezing and thawing. Additionally, attendees will learn latest design methodologies for resistance to severe loading, including hurricanes, tornadoes, and fire, as well as environmentally friendly building solutions using high performance concrete. Online registration can be completed at www.nrmca.org.
