In 2007, Louisville, Ky.-based Charah, Inc., celebrates its 20th anniversary as a leading ash management provider for the coal-fired electric utility industry. Since it was founded in 1987 by Charles and Janet Price in Madisonville, Ky., company officials note, the business has flourished by providing high-quality performance and innovative, environmentally sound solutions. Ash management clients include Ameren, Duke Energy, E.ON U.S., Progress Energy, Reliant Energy and Southern Company, among others.

Today, besides offering a complete line of ash management services Û including landfill management and operations, bottom ash processing and marketing, structural fill applications, beneficial use projects, ash pond management and Integrated Gasification Combine Cycle (IGCC) slag beneficiation Û the company annually processes and markets approximately 500,000 tons of bottom ash to concrete block, ready mixed and packaged-concrete producers in the Carolinas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, Missouri and Alabama.

Charah is a charter member of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Coal Combustion Products Partnership (C2P2), which encourages beneficial use of coal by-products. The company’s achievement in that area was recognized by a first-place C2P2 Award for Innovation received in April 2005, specifically for its development of a patent-pending concrete mix and packaging currently sold at The Home Depot stores.

After 15-plus years of foreign ownership, DISA Goff has returned to local ownership under the new company name Goff, Inc. The company’s managing director Keith Yerby purchased the Seminole, Okla.-based manufacturer, which marks its 30th anniversary this year and employs more than 100. Since starting his career with Goff in February 1991, Yerby has served in several management positions, gaining experience in every aspect of the shot blast industry.

We concentrate on the NAFTA region, Yerby notes, while Goff maintains a worldwide market. Anticipating continued growth with increased market share, the company recently expanded by doubling office and shop space. Goff manufactures airless abrasive cleaning equipment in a variety of formats including tables, wire mesh, spinner hangers, pass-throughs, batch tumblers, and a full line of aquatic washing systems, as well as portable shot-blast equipment to clean and prep surfaces such as highways, bridges, airport runways, parking garages, and ship decks. Among its primary customers are heavy equipment manufacturers and concrete block producers.

Palm Harbor, Fla.-based Sicoma North America announces the appointment of two new distributors: Jamieson Equipment Co. joins the OMG-Sicoma family of global distributors as Master Distributor for the Southeastern U.S., providing major service and warehouse parts for mixing and delivery systems; while Badger Systems, Inc., has entered into a Master Distributorship agreement covering the Midwest. Sicoma North America’s expansion in the marketplace follows a record year of achievements in mixer and custom plant adaptations, company officials note. The Italian parent company, OMG, celebrates its 60th year of continuous family ownership in 2007, they add, marking another year for worldwide leadership in concrete plant mixer manufacturing.
