Capstones, New Veneer Color Offerings Expand Outdoor Space Market Prospects

According to the American Institute of Architects, almost two-thirds of architects saw an increase in outdoor living space work in 2006, a dramatic surge from the previous year. Architects reported significant growth in demand for patio and outdoor-kitchen installations, as well as upscale landscaping, courtyards, and formal lot boundaries. Introducing flat capstones along with a new color, Owens Corning Cultured Stone adds more options to satisfy an expanding market.

The Flat Capstone collection suits multiple outdoor living applications: seating areas, caps for planters or walls requiring a flat surface (with runoff protection), custom-sized trim or sills, and hearthstone extensions for gas fireplaces (using 12-in.-wide units). A new Mocha color was developed to complement 11 Cultured Stone veneer and three Cultured Brick veneer color choices.

Owens Corning emphasizes that its Cultured Stone capstones can help provide protection and a finished look to walls, columns and piers. The following Flat Capstone features are highlighted:

  • Taupe, Gray, Champagne and Mocha colors
  • Flagstone texture with rock-face edges
  • Unit dimensions including 20-in.-long _ 2-in.-thick caps in 12-, 10-, and 6-in. widths, optimal for topping 4-, 6-, or 8-in. framed, cast-in-place or concrete masonry walls
  • Manageable weight and size for ease of handling and installation
