SELF-THREADING ANCHOR

Product features a sawtooth thread pattern that cuts its own grooves into concrete. Useful for temporary conditions, the Large Diameter Tapcon (LDT) self-threading concrete anchor improves job-site productivity, optimizes installation speed and delivers substantial holding power, the manufacturer contends. It is available in several lengths and in ?-, _-, ?-, and Ê-in. diameters, making it suitable for such anchoring applications as seating, shelving, railings, racking, sill plate attachment, conveyors, material handling, and mezzanine.

The LDT reportedly installs in less than half the time of wedge or adhesive anchors. After a standard ANSI bit is used to drill a pilot hole, and the drilled hole is cleaned, the anchor is driven with an impact or socket wrench. Once installed, the LDT exposes its finished head design, which eliminates a tripping hazard by virtue of the absence of exposed threads. The head of each anchor is stamped with a length identification code for easy inspection. Anti-rotation serrations on the washer prevent backout.

According to the manufacturer, LDT anchors do not stress concrete like wedge anchors, allowing closer edge placements. And, the anchor can easily be removed in seconds with no torching or grinding required. ITW Red Head

POWDER HANDLING

The company’s recently introduced high-temperature fluidizer disk is designed to promote the discharge of dry powders from storage silos, dust collectors, weigh bins and filters, withstanding temperatures from -50_ to 450_F (-45_ to 230_C) for storage and transport of cement and fly ash. The family of silo fluidizers enables a uniform flow of most dry bulk materials through aeration and hopper wall vibration. The fluidizer disk distributes air along the bin wall, freeing up product evenly, while minimum back pressure ensures energy is directed within the silo or storage container walls.

Gentle vibration aids in product flow and prevents compaction or plugging. A silicone rubber disk seals tightly against the silo wall to deter airline plugging and will not tear or pick up moisture. Combined performance characteristics overall help prevent bridging, rat holing and compacting. Solimar Pneumatics

NOMENCLATURE COVERS CARBON FIBER REINFORCEMENT

TechFab announces a new product nomenclature for C-Grid, its line of carbon fiber grids for reinforcing concrete structures. Replacing prior nomenclature used since C-Grid’s introduction, the new system is designed to facilitate carbon grid identification and specification, making it easier for users, engineers and designers to differentiate between C-Grid products. Concrete d»cor products packed in kit formats will continue to be sold as CT300 and CT550.

C-Grid products will be designated by a series number, which represents the relative size and strength of individual carbon fiber grid elements, followed by the longitudinal and transverse spacing of the elements in either English or metric units. Where applicable, unique information may also be incorporated into the nomenclature in the form of a Type or Grade. Summarized below is the new nomenclature, along with the old product name for TechFab’s most common C-Grid products:

TechFab officials note that increasing acceptance of carbon-grid technology is reflected in a growing demand for composite, noncorrosive reinforcement for concrete product. To supply the expanding C-Grid market, a new TechFab manufacturing plant is scheduled to come on line in Anderson, S.C., in July 2006. The new facility and machinery installation, now nearly complete, are undergoing final checkout and start-up preparations, according to Plant Manager Rick Clayton.

In addition, officials report the continued growth of AltusGroup, the first national network of precasters manufacturing CarbonCast in partnership with C-Grid manufacturers. TechFab and its AltusGroup partners kicked off a nine-city educational tour earlier this year entitled Carbon Fiber Reinforced Precast: A Seminar in New Technology for Highly Sustainable Building, whose focus is primarily architectural concrete.
