The North Central Cement Council has named Jason Kruger pavement engineer for Minnesota. He is responsible for market development and promotion of concrete parking areas in the state and will work with designers, project owners, and concrete and cement industry allies to advance the use of concrete for building site development and parking pavement applications.
Kenneth DuPere has been named managing director of finance and administration for the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute. He will be responsible for financial operations, information technology, human resources, and publication fulfillment activities. He joins PCI from Keller-Williams Fox, a $200 million real-estate firm, where he served as manager of accounting, operations, human resources and information technology.
During its annual convention in San Antonio, the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association elected Peter Brewin, president of Dallas-based Trinity Industries’ Concrete & Aggregates Group, as chairman of the board, succeeding Hale Ritchie, Lafarge North America. Formerly of Cemex’s California Ready Mix and Aggregate division, Brewin has served as the RMC 2000 California state director, as a member of NRMCA’s National Promotion Committee and the Pacific Southwest Regional Promotional Committee.
Other officers elected are a) Vice Chairman Elizabeth Boo Twohy president of Capital Concrete, Norfolk, Va., who has previously served on the NRMCA board and the Executive, Government Affairs, Construction Industry Alliance, Vision Strategic Planning, and Operations, Environmental and Safety committees; and, b) Secretary/Treasurer Frank Craddock, executive vice president of Houston-based Cemex USA, who during 23 years in concrete, aggregates and cement has served on the NRMCA board and Executive Committee.
Separately, NRMCA has announced receipt of the Trade Association Environmental Leadership Award from the Small Business Ombudsman/Small Business Environmental Assistance Program (SBO/SBEAP). The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Small Business Ombudsman along with Region IV of the Small Business Environmental Assistance Program nominated NRMCA on the basis of extensive interaction by the association and its state partners with SBO/SBEAP.
The program also recognizes NRMCA for leadership in education and training through its Environmental Course, Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act Workshops, regulatory guidance documents and other tools supporting environmental stewardship. Further qualifying NRMCA for the award are its voluntary signing on as the 10th trade association to join EPA’s Performance Track program and its promotion of Green Building with concrete.
None of NRMCA’s outreach efforts are restricted to dues-paying members. Its weekly newsletter, environmental training seminars, and, of course, governmental affairs efforts are available for the benefit of everyone in this industry sector, notes Tony Pendola, P.E., Director of the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources Small Business Environmental Assistance Program.
