Nazareth, Pa.-based Essroc Cement Corp. announced recently a $320 million expansion and modernization plan for the company’s Martinsburg, W.Va. plant, scheduled to begin this spring. The project will more than double the facility’s 2,350-tpd capacity, increasing it to about 6,000 tpd.

Combined with last year’s upgrades to the company’s Nazareth Plant I in the Lehigh Valley, the Martinsburg project marks almost $400 million Essroc’s parent company, Italcementi Group of Italy, has committed to the region. The expansion is expected to be completed in 2008, with Essroc receiving future property tax abatements and a grant for training employees on the plant’s new technology. Formerly a Capital Cement plant, Essroc acquired the Martinsburg facility in 2002.
