The Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute (ICPI) Foundation for Education & Research will host the 8th International Conference on Concrete Block Paving, Sustainable Paving for our Future, November 6-8, 2006, at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco. The conference will focus on segmental concrete pavements, emphasizing their ability to address total environmental design, including ecological, energy, safety, and visual parameters to meet 21st century needs. Also featured will be sustainable pavement applications, stormwater management with permeable interlocking pavements, and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).

The expanded 2006 conference will encompass three days of technical paper sessions, a one-day seminar for design professionals, and a one-day civil engineering university curriculum professors’ workshop. Since 1980, the International Conference on Concrete Block Paving has provided rich technical exchange, as well as research, design, construction and maintenance technology to advance the worldwide industry of segmental concrete pavement, notes conference Steering Committee Chair Charles Gamarekian. We are excited that its 2006 debut in North America will provide a forum for the exchange of information on research and application of sustainable segmental paving.

Co-sponsors of the event include the Transportation & Development Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Society of Landscape Architects. Further conference information is available at www.icpiconferences.org.
