Shipped throughout the Inland Northwest region since its year 2000 introduction by Spokane, Wash.-based Wilbert Precast, Inc., the precast window well is said to provide a cost-effective and upscale solution for egress basement windows Û a classy alternative to commonly used corrugated metal window wells. Benefits of the product, Wilbert Precast officials note, include greater strength and durability, plus more light indoors. The window wells are available in two finishes: exposed aggregate and ashlar rock, a new style featuring a natural, tumbled stone appearance.

Since the product bolts onto the foundation, it will not move or settle. Permanent ladder rungs are designed for ease of escape. Covers are also available to prevent falling into the window well, while allowing light into the basement. Metal covers (with a removable escape hatch) come in a range of colors; another cover style is clear, Lexan plastic, reportedly durable yet light enough to move in an emergency.
