Houston-based U.S. Concrete Inc. announced the Nov. 2 closing of a $14.25 million deal for the assets of City Concrete Co., City Concrete Products and City Transports. The five operations accounted for 338,000 yd. of ready mixed production and $23.5 million in sales for the 12 months ending June 30, 2005. The properties will be combined with U.S. Concrete’s six-plant southwestern Tennessee and northern Mississippi franchise, Titan Concrete Inc., and renamed The New City Concrete Co.

The 11-plant entity will be the market leader Û well ahead of Buzzi Unicem USA’s Memphis Concrete unit Û and run by a newly appointed general manager, Chris West, a long-time veteran of Metromont Materials in Spartanburg, S.C. U.S. Concrete entered Memphis in fall 1999, acquiring Carrier Concrete, which was subsequently folded into the Titan business. On the other side of Tennessee, the company operates another company acquired in 1999, Knoxville’s Ready Mix Concrete Co.
