Lafarge North America has closed on a deal with St. Louis-based Metro Materials Inc., adding two ready mixed plants and associated equipment assets in New Orleans, one of the handful of markets where it maintains integrated cement and concrete operations.

CTS notes passing of Type K cement developer E.H. Rubin

CTS Cement Manufacturing Corp., Cypress, Calif., reported last month the death of longtime consultant, Edward H. Rubin, at the age of 87, emphasizing his “skill and knowledge of cement and concrete [as] invaluable in the early development of shrinkage compensating cements.”

On the heels of last year’s strategic investment in fly ash binder specialist Ceratech, Argos USA is preparing to offer carbon-neutral concrete mixes in major markets from the Carolinas to Texas. With expanded product offerings based on the ekkomaxx binder—fly ash plus a handful of proprietary liquid admixtures—Argos will reaffirm its industry leadership by offering portland cement-free mixes with two to three times the durability of regular concretes when exposed to extreme corrosive and high temperature environments, Ceratech notes.
