Two leading independent precast/prestressed producers are joining forces to create one of the industry's leading structural and architectural product sources. High Concrete Structures, Inc. of Denver, Pa., announced on Sept. 27 a letter of intent to acquire Concrete Technology Inc. of Springboro, Ohio. The transaction, scheduled to close before the end of the year, is subject to the buyout of all shareholders in CTI's employee stock ownership plan. The deal stands to create a four-plant network with almost no redundancy, 200-plus acres of fabrication and staging area, and ready access to the country's number one and three population centers, New York and Chicago.

High Concrete has plants in Denver and Williamsport, Pa., and, company officials note, is the industry's largest player in precast parking structures. Its seven-state market runs from Connecticut to southern Virginia and west to eastern Ohio. Concrete Technology has established itself as a key Midwest source of architectural precast, operating from central Ohio and a satellite plant in Paxton, Ill. The company serves the Great Lakes region and parts of Iowa, Missouri and Kentucky. Officials from High Concrete and Concrete Technology plan to announce details on management structure and branding as acquisition terms are finalized.
