The American National Standard for the use of the modern metric system, the 69-page, updated and revised IEEE/ASTM SI-10-2002 helps readers to understand and apply SI in the internationally accepted manner.
Standard for the Use of the International System of Units (SI): The Modern Metric System (IEEE/ASTM SI-10-2002) supersedes other publications on the topic, including IEEE/ASTM SI-10-1997, ASTM E380, and ANSI/IEEE 268-1992. The work provides material that defines and comments on SI quantities and units used to describe such properties as mass, force, weight, temperature, pressure, angle, moment of inertia, and kinetic energy. It details the two classes of units — base and derived — that make up SI, providing guidance on writing SI symbols correctly. Also included are rules for conversion and rounding and numerous easy-to-understand tables.
Contents of the document cover:
- SI Units and Symbols, including classes of units and SI prefixes
- Use of SI, focussing on Application of SI prefixes and style and usage
- Annex A: Table of conversion factors

- Annex C: Comments concerning the application of SI
