Viscosity-modifier advances self-compacting mixes
Cleveland-based Master Builders, Inc. has introduced a new concrete mixture proportioning concept based on new admixture technology. Researchers note the Rheodynamic Concrete innovation radically improves concrete construction by providing enhanced concrete stability and significantly enhancing the structural durability of finished slabs and structures.
Rheodynamic is a high-performance specialty concrete produced with Master Builders' Glenium high-range water-reducing admixtures and an organic viscosity-modifying admixture. Product developers note that 1) Glenium formulation provides water reduction with minimal or no retardation even at the very fluid Rheodynamic Concrete consistencies and, 2) the organic viscosity-modifying admixture provides greatly enhanced concrete stability with consistency in day-to-day operations.
The combination of a properly engineered concrete mixture, Glenium product and the viscosity-modifying admixture results in a customized concrete exhibiting strictly controlled rheology, self-consolidation without vibration, and the ability to achieve a spread/slump flow of 18-30 in. (450-750 mm). Master Builders officials note that the new concept in concrete mixture technology can be tailored to a specific application, and significantly reduces the effort required to place concrete. Producers and contractors stand to realize reduced labor costs, reduced noise in placement, and improved employee safety with Rheodynamic Concrete. Owners will reportedly benefit from Rheodynamic Concrete's improved performance, structural durability and surface appearance in the hardened state.
“Producers will find that Rheodynamic solves many of the production challenges they encounter in the structural and architectural precast, as well as in the construction of utility structures, vertical cast-in-place elements, slabs and concrete with areas of congested reinforcement,” explains MB's Brad Violetta, director of marketing.
