Crane Summit spotlights equipment safety

The fourth World Crane and Transport Summit, November 12-13 at the Biltmore Hotel in Miami, will feature nearly 20 presentations from top industry figures, led by  Jim Wiethorn, principal engineer at Haag Engineering and U.S. crane and rigging industry veteran. He will outline findings of his firm’s recently released “Crane Accidents: A Study of Causes and Trends to Create a Safer Work Environment, 1983-2013.”

“Every lift and accident is unique, and our goal was to evaluate a broad cross-section of accidents throughout the United States in order to provide constructive information to the crane industry on factors causative of crane accidents,” says Wiethorn, study co-author.

Organized by London-based KHL Group and its American Cranes & Transport and International Cranes and Specialized Transport magazines, the Sumit has become a key gathering for the world’s crane and heavy transport industries. This year’s staging will have a definite North American flavor, with speakers addressing rental trends, training and crane operator regulations. A full program is is posted at www.khl.com/wcts.
